"Oh my love, what happened to your light?"
PRATYASHA

I was petrified when I first saw you,
But little did I know at the moment that you are the one who would kindle my muse.
Forever grateful, that you allayed my fears,
And you let me handle you with care
I now help my dad with rearing Bombyx.
It still amazes me, that you take me back to ‘The Fly Room’ of 1900s
To be one among Morgan et al.
Drawing me to the depths of the molecular world.
A wonderful creature, with tunes and combs,
And imaginal discs that transmute.
I handle you with quivering hands,
Be you a larva or an adult,
I always care with homemade food.
But come dissection or a behavioral assay,
With a heavy heart, I put you to rest at the end of the day.
Whilst I explore the world of cell lines and mouse models,
You remain the one that ignited my passion for genetics.
For which I’m forever grateful.

"My organisms are human cells that grow and divide. These babies are actually grown outside the human body in specialised dishes. They need their customised food for energy, a nice warm and humid environment, and like any child, they need enough space to play and grow. They also need other cells as their friends to connect with!"
