Lab Troubles

ALKA & NISHTHA

"In this post, Alka and Nisththa through their light hearted narratives on travails with lab equipments and reagents, talk about how laboratory life impacts the personal life of a researcher."

Disentangling the Self from the Laboratory

ALKA

"The defense mechanisms I built around myself to cope with being overwhelmed— routines, structure, and emotional detachment—seemed to fit seamlessly into lab life. Over time, it felt like my personal life and lab life were two parts of the same system, so intertwined that one couldn’t exist without the other."

Happy Chromosomes and Angry Embryos

ANJANA

"It was early 2020 and our work came to a standstill, much like everything else in the country at the time. I continued to work in biology research before I decided to shift to critical science studies. I took up a lab management position which brought me back to the biology lab this year. This led me to conduct simple science experiments for undergraduate students."

Pay attention to the life that is you!

NISHTHA

"What is more important - the rigour of scientific research, or imagination? You will find some well-meaning seniors telling you that rigour is all that is in research, and I agree. But if you’re told that there’s no time to play, that is not true."

Data and Me

ISHANI

"This story begins at the end of a trek."

The Shittiest Job May Too Have a Probiotic Lining!

ABHIJIT

"In this post, Abhijit takes us through a day in the life of a gut microbiome researcher. Yup! Some microbes happily thrive in the guts, and they serve important survival functions for human beings."

A Roller-Coaster Ride!

OLIVIA

"One of the unexpected joys of research is the relationships you build. Whether it’s staying up late with your lab mates troubleshooting an experiment or exchanging ideas at a conference, science becomes a shared journey. At conferences, we exchange ideas, share stories, and connect with people from all over the world who are just as passionate as you. The science is exciting, but the sense of community makes the journey even more special."

Western Blot: A Poem

PALLAVI

"Western blot, Western blot
Western blot, Western blot

इतना क्यों सताते हों?
Why do you cause so much trouble?"

Into the Proteome-verse

RUSHALI

"...This is what science is about…pushing your understanding to uncover the secrets nature holds, despite finding ourselves in dark alleys that seem scary and futile to explore, but unearths more and more wonders, if you find out new ways to explore them."

Moody Reagents

ANJANA

"I always thought about how reagents might feel when we frequently freeze and thaw. How it may feel from -200C to 40C, -800C to 40C and sometimes liquid nitrogen i.e., -1960C to room temperature. Are they cursing me to experience a similar situation?"

Biotales is an innovative outreach project involving early career biology researchers where they co-create outreach material on their personal research journeys. Through structured activities in workshops involving reading, writing, reflecting and making art, participants open up the world of life sciences research as experienced by them to aspiring biology researchers, enthusiasts as well as those within the scientific community.
