I worked on fruit fly (Drosophila) development for my Biology masters project. I was looking at the maternal effects of a gene, and my work involved a lot of antibody staining and microscopy.

About Anjana

Anjana Thadathil's academic interests lie in Science and Technology Studies, particularly Feminist Critiques of Science. She graduated with a BS-MS in Biology from IISER, Pune and currently works as an Academic Associate at Azim Premji University, Bangalore.

The Positives in the Negative

"Honestly, the real thrill of conducting research, and what makes it worth persevering despite the gruelling nature of it is that biology, to quote Barbara McClintock, “never ceases to amaze us”. While standard protocols and set pipelines are important for scientific rigour, and making research reproducible, does it leave room for creativity? Imagine the stories we miss as we disregard negative data!"

Biotales is an innovative outreach project involving early career biology researchers where they co-create outreach material on their personal research journeys. Through structured activities in workshops involving reading, writing, reflecting and making art, participants open up the world of life sciences research as experienced by them to aspiring biology researchers, enthusiasts as well as those within the scientific community.
